The Blackout Dynamics Quantum DTL-X .223 Wylde rifle uses a 14.5-inch barrel with the muzzle device pinned and welded, so it is a 16-inch, non-NFA rifle with the handling of a carbine. It is built around Blackout Dynamics’ patented Dual Taper Lock barrel mounting system and the Helix gas regulating barrel, so you can tune it to run clean suppressed or unsuppressed.
Blackout Dynamics (formerly sold as Blackout Defense) builds the Quantum DTL in Chandler, Arizona and backs every rifle with a 1 MOA accuracy guarantee, a test fire before it ships and a lifetime warranty on manufacturing.
What sets the Quantum DTL-X apart
- Dual Taper Lock (DTL): Two tapers and two interlocking barrel nuts center the barrel in the upper and lock the chamber in place for repeatable accuracy.
- Helix gas regulating barrel: A tool-less adjustable gas system with a detent, M42 cobalt steel adjustment rod and high-temp spring. Turn it down for a suppressor, back up for unsuppressed shooting.
- 416R stainless barrel: Gun-drilled, reamed, 5R rifled, lapped, stress relieved and air gauged, then finished in polished cryo. 1:8 twist.
- Zero trigger: 3 lb flat-face trigger with zero pre-travel, zero post-travel and a short reset.
- Fully ambidextrous controls: Ambi lower with ambi bolt release and magazine release, ambi 45/90 safety and a Stryker gas-deflecting ambi charging handle.
- Handguard: 12.85" handguard with full-length M-LOK slots on five sides, a full-length Picatinny top rail and anti-rotation pins.
- Bolt carrier group: 8620 steel carrier and shot-peened 9310 or Carpenter 158 bolt, high-pressure tested and magnetic particle inspected.
- Finish: Clear Anocoat upper and ambidextrous lower with Burnt Bronze hardware, Burnt Bronze charging handle and 45/90 safety, and FDE Magpul furniture.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Dual Taper Lock on the Quantum DTL-X?
It is Blackout Dynamics’ patented barrel mounting system. A taper on the barrel extension and a second taper on the barrel each mate with their own barrel nut, which centers the barrel in the upper and locks the chamber in place for consistent accuracy.
Is this rifle an NFA item?
No. The 14.5-inch barrel has its muzzle device pinned and welded to reach 16 inches, so it is a standard Title I rifle and transfers on a regular 4473.
Can it shoot 5.56 and .223?
Yes. The .223 Wylde chamber safely fires both 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington and is built for match-grade accuracy with .223.
How accurate is the Quantum DTL-X?
Blackout Dynamics guarantees every Quantum DTL to shoot 1 MOA or better at 100 yards with match-grade ammunition, tested without a suppressor.
What warranty does Blackout Dynamics offer?
A lifetime warranty on manufacturing. Every rifle is test fired before it leaves the factory.
